A 2026 recipient of the Patient Safety Excellence Award, White Plains Hospital once again ranks among the top 5% in the nation for patient safety, according to Healthgrades, a leading resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Leapfrog—Hospital Safety Grade

For the 14th consecutive time, White Plains Hospital has received an “A” from healthcare watchdog the Leapfrog Group in its Fall 2025 Hospital Safety Grades for its continued excellence in providing safe, expert care to its patients. The Hospital has received an “A” each period since the beginning of 2019 and is the only hospital in the Hudson Valley, and one of just four hospitals in New York State, to earn this top grade at least 14 consecutive times.

Magnet Recognition Program®

White Plains Hospital has been designated for the third time (2012, 2016, 2021) as a Magnet organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association. Magnet designation is the highest and most prestigious international distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence, and it is the ultimate credential for high-quality nursing. Hospitals must complete a rigorous evaluation process and site visit every four years in order to achieve and maintain the designation.

Great Place to Work

White Plains Hospital was officially recognized again as a Great Place to Work for 2024-2025. Bariatric surgery

Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery

White Plains Hospital was one of just 101 hospitals nationwide – out of over 2,200 surveyed – to be named to Money's Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery list, published in 2022. To qualify for the list, eligible hospitals were required to meet criteria specific to bariatric surgery, as detailed here.

MBSAQIP Accredited Center

White Plains Hospital's Bariatric Surgical Center has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The Hospital is one of only two hospitals in Westchester to receive the accreditation.

Cancer care

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

This is given to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. White Plains Hospital was accredited as a National Breast Center by the NAPBC in 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2022.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Recognizes cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

National Accredited Program for Rectal Cancer

White Plains Hospital was awarded a three-year accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. As one of five hospitals in New York to be accredited for their commitment toward excellence in the care of rectal cancer, the Hospital demonstrated compliance with the NAPRC standards that look at program management, clinical services and quality improvement to ensure that rectal cancer patients receive appropriate care using a multidisciplinary approach.

American College of Radiation® - Radiation Oncology Accredited Facility

White Plains Hospital is accredited in Radiation Oncology by the American College of Radiology, having met high national standards for quality, safety, equipment, staff qualifications, and quality assurance in delivering radiation therapy.

Healthgrades recognized White Plains Hospital for its superior clinical outcomes in heart bypass surgery, coronary interventional procedures, heart attack treatment, heart failure treatment, and heart valve surgery, making it one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation for cardiac care. Cardiac Surgery Among the Best in the Nation

The Montefiore Cardiac Surgery Program at White Plains Hospital has earned a distinguished three-star rating, the highest quality rating awarded, from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and clinical outcomes in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star rating places the program among the top 10% for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada.

Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Receiving Gold Achievement Award

In 2025, White Plains Hospital received the American Heart Association’s Get with The Guidelines® - Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Award for providing rapid, research-based care to patients experiencing ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) heart attacks.

The Joint Commission Comprehensive Heart Attack Center Certification

In 2025, White Plains Hospital received Comprehensive Heart Attack Center Certification (CHAC) from the Joint Commission. Achieving this quality designation means that our Hospital has met the rigorous standards for providing consistent and optimal treatment for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) – including ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST-elevated myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), and unstable angina – and complications related to ACS, such as cardiac arrest and cardiogenic shock.

American Diabetes Association's Recognition for a Quality Diabetes Self-Management Education Program

This recognition assures that our educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs and have knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information in order to facilitate diabetes self-care.

Castle Connolly Top Hospital New York Colon Surgery 2026

White Plains Hospital has once again been named a 2026 Castle Connolly Top Hospital, earning multiple national and state recognitions for clinical excellence, including: National Procedure Awards for Lung Cancer Surgery, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement, and Hysterectomy. The Hospital also received a New York State Procedure Award for Colon Surgery and was recognized nationally with a specialty award for its excellence in Cancer Surgery.

Best Hospitals for Ethical Billing

Based upon data compiled by The Leapfrog Group, White Plains Hospital was one of just 259 hospitals nationwide – out of over 2,200 surveyed – to be named to Money's first-ever Best Hospitals for Ethical Billing list, published in 2022. To qualify for the list, eligible hospitals were required to carry an "A" or "B" letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for fall 2022; White Plains received its eight consecutive "A" during that period. National Committee for Quality Assurance - Patient-Centered Medical Homes

Five of our outpatient primary care locations (Family Health Center, White Plains Hospital Medical & Wellness, WPHPA of Larchmont, WPHPA of New Rochelle and WPHPA of West Harrison) have been recognized for the ninth consecutive year by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as Patient-Centered Medical Homes (PCMH) – a distinction that reflects our commitment to delivering coordinated care that enhances access, strengthens communication, and actively supports patient involvement in every aspect of their health.

Emergency Nurses Association—2023-2026 Lantern Award

White Plains Hospital's Emergency Department, and specifically ED nurses, were recognized by the Emergency Nurses Association for exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. White Plains Hospital is 1 of 7 in New York and 53 in the world this year to receive this 3-year designation.


American Association of Critical Care Nurses Beacon Award for Excellence

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has once again recognized White Plains Hospital with the gold-level Beacon award for nursing excellence in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) units for 2021. The Beacon Award recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN's six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that earn this three-year award meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award. In 2017, the Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were recognized with bronze-level and gold-level awards, respectively. The Hospital is a repeated recipient of the Beacon award; the ICU having first received it in 2014, and the CCU in 2016.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR)

This designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

American College of Radiology (ACR)

The Advanced Imaging & Radiology Department at White Plains Hospital was awarded the highest level of imaging achievement by the American College of Radiology (ACR). As an accredited Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE) and Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE), White Plains Hospital is among the top 8% of facilities nationwide to be recognized for its outstanding diagnostic imaging care to its patients. ACR's accreditation reflects excellence at multiple levels, from professional staff, technology, policies and procedures, and is granted every three years following a rigorous assessment.

Maternity services

Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM)

The White Plains Hospital Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Department was awarded re-accreditation in Obstetrics and Detailed Fetal Anatomic Survey from the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). This special certification indicates the Hospital's adherence to nationally recognized standards in the performance and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, notwithstanding its commitment to clinical excellence and the highest quality patient care.

Charles A. Mastronardi Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Designated as Level III by the New York State DOH

Level III is the highest accreditation possible for a community hospital perinatal center and signifies that White Plains Hospital operates a neonatal intensive care unit and is equipped to provide perinatal care services for patients requiring increasingly complex treatment.

International Baby-Friendly® Designation

White Plains Hospital earned the International Baby-Friendly® designation from Baby-Friendly USA for achieving some of the highest standards of care for breastfeeding mothers and babies. The program, which is administered by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, supports hospitals in giving mothers information, confidence and the skills necessary to successfully breastfeed in the first days of a newborn's life. The Hospital is one of only three hospitals in the lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut to achieve the important designation.

Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for Patient Experience in Neonatal Intensive Care

For the third year in a row, White Plains Hospital has been named a 2021 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award winner for Patient Experience in Neonatal Intensive Care. The Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally recognized symbol of achievement in healthcare. The annual award honors health facilities that have consistently sustained performance in the top 5% of all Press Ganey clients nationally for one year.

American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Elite Achievement Award

In 2025, White Plains Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with The Guidelines? – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the 19th consecutive year for providing stroke patients with the most appropriate treatment, according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. In addition, the Hospital received “Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite” and “Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll” citations.

Stroke Center Designation

New York State Department of HealthThe New York State Department of Health (DOH) recognizes White Plains Hospital for the Hospital's specific capabilities to treat complex stroke diagnoses and requires stroke patients to be brought to the designated hospitals in an emergency. The Hospital was the first community hospital in Westchester to receive this designation in 2005.

The Hospital is certified by the New York State Department of Health (DOH), approved by the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene, and accredited by the American College of Radiology and American Committee of the College of American Pathologists.

The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval®

Joint Commission Thrombectomy-capable stroke centers awardIn 2024, White Plains Hospital received Thrombectomy-Capable Certification by The Joint Commission. Achieving Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) Certification means that our Hospital has met the rigorous standards for performing neuro-endovascular mechanical thrombectomy – a minimally invasive procedure where specially designed instruments are threaded through thin catheters to reach and remove blood clots in the brain. This is highest-quality acute stroke care currently available and the gold standard for stroke treatment.
