Back on Her Toes: How Surgery Saved a Teen Dancer’s Dream
Dancing since she was three years old, Julia suffered a painful knee injury while dancing at the age of 15. Rehearsing for a dance, she went to jump back to do a trick and her knee just popped. "She had to stop. That was the last dance," said Julia's mom Anne.
After surgery and a year of physical therapy, she still couldn’t dance. Julia recalls, "I knew I was going to have a little bit of difficulty doing everything again, but it just wasn't right."
That's when she explored other options and met with a surgeon at the White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery. It turned out she not only had a tear in the meniscus, but also scar tissue inside the knee, which was part of the problem and causing a lot of pain. Dr. Rick Weinstein performed minimally invasive knee surgery to remove the torn tissue. She was up and walking the same day. In just two months, Julia was back in the dance studio, happy again, doing what she loves to do.
"I was very impressed with White Plains Hospital", Julia says with a smile. "My mom and I still talk about it today."
