Building Trust
Longtime Westchester County resident Nathan used to dismiss White Plains Hospital as "a small hospital with an active emergency department." When back troubles arose again – he'd already undergone two surgeries over the preceding decade – his encounter with Dr. Andrew Casden, the Hospital's Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and Spine Surgery, changed that perception.
Dr. Casden found that the chronic back pain sufferer required a laminectomy on four of Nathan's vertebrae. A laminectomy involves removing part or all of the lamina, the bony arch that protects the spinal cord, in order to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots, providing relief from pain and other symptoms.
From Spine to Hip, We Had His Back
Nathan was impressed by his experience – which ultimately led him to the Hospital's Dr. Jakub Tatka when hip replacement surgery became necessary.
His friends questioned whether the Hospital could compare with those in Manhattan, but he went forward with White Plains Hospital, resulting in another success.
"My experience was excellent," Nathan says. "The recuperation was quick, relatively painless. I was walking within 3-4 days and driving within 5-6 days. Two months later, I was playing tennis. I'm working to build my strength back up and also playing golf."
White Plains Hospital is now his #1 choice, both due to its proximity to his home and the results. "It started with Dr. Casden and his stewardship as my spine surgeon, but it certainly extended throughout the process to include the staff and the facilities at White Plains Hospital, which were excellent. I'm now a huge fan."
As for his friends who doubted his decision to seek close-to-home care? "They're all rethinking the whole thing now," he laughs.
