High Grades for Spine Surgeon
"When I told him I'd been in pain for three years, Dr. Brandoff said, ‘Ouch!'"
Retired educator Carol chuckles when recalling her meeting with White Plains Hospital spine and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jared Brandoff, while acknowledging the situation was serious. "I was unable to walk, stand or sit very comfortably – and the pain would wake me up when I was sleeping," she attests.
Dr. Brandoff determined that Carol needed a spinal fusion, agreeing that the six epidurals she'd undergone were not the answer. "He was actually recommended to me by my podiatrist, who said, ‘This doctor saved another patient's life'," she says. "Dr. Brandoff was so compassionate, kind – he's a real sweetheart."
All In The Family
With her surgery done in May 2024, and several weeks of rehab at Burke completed a few weeks later, Carol was thrilled that she could still go on a cruise to Northern Europe in July with her husband, Edward – though Edward was having his own back problems.
"The nerves were shot in my back," Edward, also a retired educator, says. "I had pain all along my lower back radiating down my left leg. I also have arthritis and what I call heavy leg syndrome," due to the related lack of circulation in his legs."
"I had two words for him," Carol says. "Dr. Brandoff."
The surgeon conducted a laminectomy, putting Edward back on his feet and significantly reducing the
weight" in his legs. "Everyone at the Hospital, the nurses and the techs, treated me so well," Edward says. "And Dr. Brandoff gets an A+ from me."
The pair is now looking forward to another cruise. Married for 60 years, they estimate they've been to 174 countries. "Both of our procedures went as well as they could have," Carol enthuses. "We've recommended Dr. Brandoff and White Plains Hospital to so many people since then."
