Moving Forward, Pain-Free

Molly Shoulder surgery

A former high school volleyball player and nurse, Molly says she thought little of the shoulder pain she'd been experiencing for years. "I had a history of multiple dislocations," she says, "so it didn't really hit me until the pain got really bad."

In 2023, she paid a visit to White Plains Hospital orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Schwartz, who had successfully treated her brother's broken collarbone a few years earlier. "I told him I thought I was having the usual 'pop and lock' in my shoulder," Molly says. "After he examined me, he said that my upper arm bone was actually not going into the shoulder socket."

Arthroscopic surgery revealed not only the dislocation, but several torn ligaments, including her labrum. "All the ligaments I thought were just stretched out were basically destroyed," Molly says. "I'd gone about five years without realizing that something was really wrong."

Following the surgery to repair the torn ligaments and rehab, Molly says she is mostly pain-free. She describes Dr. Schwartz as "wonderful" and his team as "really caring and kind. This was my first-ever surgery and it really was a great experience. Plus the team at the Hospital's Outpatient Physical Therapy really treated me well. It was a seamless experience from start to finish."
